Our Engagement Story

A few months back Christy and I went on vacation in San Pancho, Mexico for her birthday. Her birthday was early in the week. My plan was to propose to Christy at the end of the trip, to keep the engagement apart from her birthday.
Around Wednesday, I started to covertly carry the ring, stuffing the chunky ring box in my pocket along with my digital camera. Thankfully, Christy did not notice that the camera had gotten considerably larger. When sunset on Thursday night came around, a riveting episode of Mad Men foiled my plan for a romantic sunset walk. The next day, I had convinced Christy into a sunset walk, but our host gave us an an impromptu going away party. Foiled again, the proposal would have to wait for another day.
Back home, I had to reconsider how to ask the question. My favorite spot in New York is in Prospect Park, a hill overlooking a pond in the middle of Long Meadow. It is the most beautiful spot in the city. It also reminded me of our walks in Prospect Park when we were first falling in love, where I realized that this was the girl was a girl who I would follow to the other side of the world.
I suggested that we should have a picnic to treat ourselves, since we were back to the daily grind, so far from the white beaches of the bucolic Mexican Rivera. Christy was excited about the idea, so I picked up a picnic basket, and filled it with the finest cheeses and charcuterie, champagne and, wrapped within the picnic blanket, the engagement ring.
When we got to the hill, I started setting up the picnic, kneeling down to unwrap the blanket, where I unearthed the ring and got into proposal pose. Christy had tuned away from my picnic setup, but she soon looked back to notice that I was on my knee with a ring in my hand. "What?!?" she said. I surprised the socks off of her. Fortunately, she gained her composure and she said yes. From out of nowhere, a kid came up and asked us if we just got married. Close enough we told him, and he excitedly ran back to tell his dad the good news.
We sat down to enjoy our picnic and figure out what to do next. Recovering from the shock, we realized that this is probably something that people might want to know. We started calling and texting you, our friends and family about the good news.
And here we are today, getting ready for the big day, which will be the awesomest wedding ever.
